Sometimes a creative idea comes along that feels like a lovely side quest from my main studio practice, and I just have to follow it. This piece and "Scituate Lighthouse" both grew out of one of those creative side quests: a prompt to paint scenes that would feel right at home in a sleek, contemporary space while capturing the true heart of Scituate, Massachusetts.
While the lighthouse represents Scituate's vibrant public history, this painting captures a deeply personal side of the town. I was inspired by the sweeping marsh view right outside my friends' backyard, a special vista where I watched them get married and where our families have gathered to spend time together over the years. Painted using rich gouache and acrylic on heavy textured paper, it captures the warm, glowing light of a South Shore evening.
