"A Second Glance"
The Story
I started this oil painting in the fall of 2010 when I was 24 years old. At that time, I was inventing landscapes by cutting up and pasting together road trip photos and National Geographic images, tacking them up in my studio as reference. The title “A Second Glance” refers to the look I am having at this piece now at age 40.
It makes me cry happy tears to think that as a young artist, I was unknowingly creating a place that would eventually represent the beach path where I now spend so much time loving my children. I have updated the work by layering in collage materials I have collected or created, along with a variety of paint markers and fresh acrylic paint. While the original reference collage I created is long lost, I have been looking at the photography in the book Dreamscapes by Claire Takacs and my own photos of our local beach to guide these new layers. It is a beautiful process of reconciling my younger imagination with the life I have built since, and I am so proud of myself for living this life and finding this way to capture it.

Original fine art requires specialized packaging to ensure it arrives perfectly safe. Please allow up to three weeks for this one of a kind piece to be carefully prepared and shipped directly from my studio.
Purchase of this original work of art includes a complimentary copy of Claire Takacs’ book.
The Print Details
As a working artist, managing an open online shop every single day takes me away from my core purpose. To ensure I have the dedicated time needed to focus on my original paintings and my community work through my nonprofit Creative Pathways, my shop is only open for short, intentional windows throughout the year.
This artwork is a strictly limited edition. The collection is capped at:
10 prints at 14×18” (Hand Embellished and Framed)
10 prints at 14x18” (Unframed)
20 prints at 7x9” (Unframed)
These prints will be available during this current open window. Whatever remains will simply be held in the vault until the next time I open the shop doors. However, once these specific edition numbers are fully claimed across my shop openings, this artwork will be officially archived and never reproduced in these formats again.
The Hand Embellished and Framed Edition
For a truly unique piece, you can choose the 14x18” hand embellished edition. I will personally bring the reproduction back into the studio to add subtle layers of acrylic texture and transparent color, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. To protect the original texture and elevate this exclusive tier, these specific prints are elegantly matted and come professionally framed, arriving ready to hang on your wall. The final outer size of this framed edition is approximately 18x22”. Because of the physical studio time and custom framing this requires, I am strictly limiting this option to an edition of 10.
Shipping and Processing
Please allow up to three weeks for processing standard prints, and up to four weeks for the framed editions. These are custom printed to order, and I want to personally ensure proper care and high quality attention to the creation and shipment of your art.
