The arts are thriving on the South Shore. We are lucky to be surrounded by a vibrant network of creators and there is always room for more to get involved. Whether you are looking for a summer camp, a studio to visit, or a new class to join, you belong here.

Beth Bailey

Founder + Creative Lead, Creative Pathways

The 2025 MAEA Community Art Educator of the Year, Beth specializes in designing large scale collaborative projects that bring people together. She runs a pottery and painting studio out of her home in Whitman and hosts the "Let's Chat Creative Pathways" podcast, where she interviews makers and thinkers about the varied routes to living a creative life.

Julia Driscoll

A passionate community leader and painter who runs the North River Arts Society to ensure art education is accessible to everyone. In her own studio practice, Julia creates paintings inspired by a folk style, often incorporating spiritual elements and nature imagery like goldfinches and coastal waterways.

Pam Golden

A celebrated sculptor formerly serving as an art teacher at South Shore Public Charter School and as the Art Director at Inly School. Pam specializes in large scale clay sculpture as well as collaborative clay projects that bring communities together, with interactive installations featured at First Night Boston and the Fuller Craft Museum.

A self taught artist best known for her whimsical painting and fiber sculptures. Her work focuses on clever repurposing, turning unexpected raw materials like metal wire, fabric, and paper into textured, playful art that brings unique character to the residency.

Jess Hassett

Owner + Creative Lead, Levitate Brand + Festival

The Marshfield-based fashion designer and painter who serves as the artistic force behind the Levitate brand. Jess blends fine art with apparel design to craft the company's iconic visual identity. Her hand painted artwork can be seen everywhere from the latest clothing collections to the massive billboards for the Levitate Music & Arts Festival on I-93.

Lindsey Boss

Collage Artist + Sign Painter

A mixed media artist and the talent behind the hand painted signs you see at our local Trader Joe's. Lindsey is known for her intricate hand cut collages that blend vintage book imagery with sparkly, gem like elements. Her work often explores themes of transformation and escapism, turning "darker" human experiences into something beautiful and surreal.

Local Art Hubs

North River Arts Society

The North River Arts Society was established in 1968. It is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization fostering participation and appreciation of the arts at the community level.

The society offers classes and workshops, a Festival of the Arts, a Members Show, a Focus on Figures Show, the Outside the Box Silent Auction, and a Holiday Arts Sale.

It also provides additional opportunities for artists to exhibit at the Dolphin Gallery, the Jeanne Horan Gallery, and at many themed exhibitions on site. Scholarships and financial aid are available for both adults and children.

Marshfield

Sandpaper Factory

A massive historic factory converted into a thriving creative ecosystem. Follow their social pages to stay up to date with their twice annual Open Studios where the public is free to roam through the building, in and out of studios, meeting artists and other creatively curious community members. This takes place at the same time as the Open Studios for the ET Wright building which is just a few blocks away.

Rockalnd

Rockland

One of the largest artist communities in the region. While primarily private studios, they host massive Open Studio events in the Spring and Fall alongside the Sandpaper Factory just a few blocks away, where you can tour the building, meet the artists, and buy direct from the makers.

Fuller Craft Museum

Brockton

A contemporary craft museum that is much more than just a gallery. They host incredible interactive workshops for families (like woven bookmark making) and offer a stunning natural campus perfect for a weekend walk.

Duxbury Art Complex Museum

Duxbury

A hidden treasure nestled in the woods of Duxbury where admission is always free. This museum loves having families explore both the galleries and the beautiful grounds. It features a rotating art collection, a Japanese Tea House, and wide open sculpture gardens perfect for a walk with children.

South Shore Art Center

Cohasset

A staple of the community located right on the Cohasset Common. They offer extensive classes for adults and children, plus the famous Arts Festival every June. It is a great place to view professional exhibitions or take your first pottery class.

Julo Pottery Studio

Plymouth

A beautiful, woman owned studio in Plymouth that makes pottery accessible and fun. They offer "One Night Stand" workshops for beginners who want to try the wheel without a long commitment, as well as 6 week courses for those ready to dive deeper.

Frame Center

Hanover

Frame Center is a cornerstone of the South Shore arts community. While they are known for expert custom framing, this shop is also a bustling creative hub that hosts regular gallery openings and art events. They actively build connections across the region through their "Inside the Frame" podcast, where they interview local makers and artists. It is the perfect place to visit, view new work, and plug into the local network of creatives.
